Article parsing

At a glance

Cubox extracts the title and main text from saved pages and emails so you can read, annotate, and return to them in your library. How much of an Article is available depends on the content Cubox can access.

If an Article is incomplete, open and expand the full text in your browser, then save it with the Cubox extension. Sign-in requirements, paywalls, dynamic content, and site changes can affect parsing. If parsing is unsuccessful, you can still open the Webpage or view a Snapshot when one is available.

Need help? Email hi@cubox.cc with the source URL, how you saved it, and a screenshot of the result.

Content types

These are the content types you may see when you open a saved item in Cubox.

Article
The title and main text extracted from a saved page, presented in a clean reading view. Articles support Annotations, full-text search, AI Insight, and Ask AI. The saved text remains in your library even if the source page becomes unavailable.
Snippet
Text or images clipped from a page, or content saved from an email or newsletter. A Snippet keeps the part you want to read, along with its source link when available. Like an Article, it supports Annotations and AI reading tools.
Webpage
The original page at the saved URL. Cubox may open the Webpage while parsing is in progress, if parsing fails, or if the content is not suitable for an Article view.
Snapshot
An archived copy of a saved web page or email, available with a paid plan. A Snapshot helps you revisit the content if the original changes or disappears. It preserves the source content rather than converting it into an Article.

Sources & limitations

Support depends on the page and how it is saved. This overview describes common results rather than a guarantee for every page on a site.

SourceSupportWhat to expect
Blogs, news & documentationGenerally supportedCubox extracts the title and main text where available. Unusual layouts, dynamic content, or site changes can affect the result.
X (Twitter)Results may varyPosts may require sign-in or load dynamically. If a saved link is incomplete, open the post in your browser and try saving it with the extension.
YouTube & other video sitesVideo is not parsedThe video itself is not converted into an Article. Video transcript parsing is planned.
Paywalls & sign-in pagesAccess requiredCubox can only parse content it can access. If you have access to the full text, open it in your signed-in browser and save it with the extension.
Email & newslettersSupported via Email DropForward content to your Cubox email address. Email attachments are not saved.

Troubleshooting

Why does my saved item still open as a Webpage?
Parsing may still be in progress. Try reopening the item or refreshing your library. Large imports can take longer to process. If parsing fails or the content is not suitable for an Article, Cubox opens the Webpage instead.
Why is the Article incomplete?
Some pages hide text behind a sign-in screen, paywall, or collapsed section. Open the full content in your browser, expand any hidden sections, then save it with the browser extension.
Can I refresh the parsed Article?
You can refresh parsing from the reader in the mobile app. Applying a new parsing result clears the existing Annotations for that Article. If you are viewing the Webpage and Cubox indicates the Article is ready, switch back to the Article view.
What if a site is never parsed?
Check the site’s Parsing Rule in Preferences. Site changes can also temporarily affect parsing. Until a site-specific rule is updated, Cubox may use its general parsing result.
Can Cubox parse videos or private content?
Videos are not converted into readable Articles. Cubox also cannot retrieve content it has no access to. For content you can access in your browser, try saving the visible page with the extension.
Why does the Snapshot look different from the Webpage?
A Snapshot is a copy captured when the content was saved. Complex layouts, media players, and dynamic effects may not appear exactly as they do on the live page. Sites that restrict automated access may prevent a Snapshot from being saved.
